Have you seen this popular Korean TV series yet?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably have heard of the Squid Game, the new Korean series on Netflix. The show is a huge hit in Singapore. And quick trivia, it’s also the first Korean series to rank first in the Netflix US chart.

To give you a short background, Squid Games is a story about people who are at the brink of financial ruin joining an underground game. The stakes of participating in the game are high, but the prize will help them escape their problems in the real world. The plot might sound simple, but the show teaches us a lot of lessons about money, survival, deceit, and life in general. Some scenes are just so heartbreaking that they would just make you reflect on how you’re living your life.

Some of the best, most cunning characters in the story are women. They might seem gentle and quiet, but the hardships they experience toughened them up and got them far in the vicious game.

Various acts of kindness abundantly run within the series. Considering its dark tone, it’s impressive how willful and inadvertent compassion was shown by the characters. Gi-hun makes sure the small band they formed works together to protect each other.

Have you ignored the messages of a friend offering you insurance? Let’s face the reality. Whenever we encounter people urging us to start having our own insurance, we ignore them. At one point, we may have prioritized spending our money on something we want over something we need.

Gi Hun found out that his mother is diabetic but his mother chose to go home due to lack of money to pay for the hospital bills. Gi Hun said the insurance will cover everything but was reminded that he wasn’t able to consistently pay for it.

Whenever we have financial problems, we always resort to gambling. We risk our money into a game that will just put our life at stake.

Gi-hun and Sang-woo are old childhood friends who went on different routes when they grew up. One became successful, the other a failure. But they end up in the life-risking game because of poor choices. Their pasts do not matter anymore because they are on equal footing.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. In other words, it probably is FALSE. if you observe a fact or situation that seems unlikely, then the likely explanation for you observing it is that there is something wrong with the fact or situation.

The decisions we make not only shape our present, but also seeds our future. Gi-hun, as a lead character, showed a lot of imperfections. Based on his current state in life, it’s obvious that the guy was not always a straight arrow. All his actions in the past came to bite him in the present. Unfortunately, the wrong calls only led him to even greater danger.

  1. Nurture every connection you make

Filtering people in your life is part of being an adult. You don’t need to build a wide connection only a small functioning one. Most of the time, the people you thought to matter won’t even ask you how you are doing randomly or intentionally.

  1. Money may be important, but it doesn’t always guarantee happiness

Money was the greatest motivator for all 456 players that they still came back even after knowing the risks at hand. With the huge sum taunting them as it looms over their heads, people were even driven to kill for the bills! But in the end, we realize that money doesn’t always guarantee a happy life.

  1. Greed makes a man blind.

Squid Game is about survival. In order for you to survive and secure the winning prize, you need to do whatever it takes. However, amid that eagerness to win, we disregard the fact that greed overpowered us, which resulted in unpleasant things happening.

  1. Be grateful for what you have.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a better life, for you and your family. But have you stopped to say thank you for everything that you already have?
