Best House Plants for Positive Vibes

We already know that plants add some life and color into our spaces—but what if they could do more than that?

“As Singapore transforms into a City in Nature, Community in Bloom (CIB) continues to reach out to all residents to promote a greater appreciation for greenery and to nurture a gardening culture. With the rapid urbanisation of our nation, land has become a scarce resource. Many residents now live and work in high-rise buildings. Creating indoor gardens give us plenty of opportunities to enjoy greenery in our everyday lives and deepens our appreciation for nature. Through CIB’s Indoor Gardening Programme, you can now transform your home and office into indoor gardens.” – National Parks & Community in Bloom (CIB)

Looking to add a little green into your home? According to Feng Shui, there are certain types of plants that are classed as good luck plants. Feng Shui plants are said to bring prosperity, fortune, love, and luck. That is why some types of “lucky plants” are called money trees or money plants. There are other plants Feng Shui considers to bring luck such as lucky bamboo, rubber plants, orchids, and some types of indoor ferns and palms.

Why You Should Pre-plan

Discussing one’s mortality is an extremely uncomfortable topic in many families. No one likes to think about death, let alone plan for it. Birth and Death are a natural cycle. Fortunate are those who have prepared for the afterlife in advance.

We tend to get emotional during the passing away of a loved one, having a pre-planning in place helps to lessen the misunderstanding, burden, and stress. A pre-planning enables the individual or next of kin to have time for proper funeral planning and decision-making. This is very helpful as it relieves your family of having to make important financial decisions during a period of great stress and grief – a time when people aren’t thinking very clearly and may not know what to do because you never made your wishes known.

The Cost of Funeral Services in Singapore

-by BestinSingapore.co

The overall expenses for a funeral service in Singapore mainly depend on its length and the religion of the deceased. As expected, the longer the funeral service is, the higher the overall cost will be. Based on our research, the thing about funeral services in Singapore is that they can either be extremely cheap or ridiculously expensive. You have just to find the right funeral home with reasonable prices.

Generally, a funeral service already comes with a room, an appropriate set of decorations, casket, chairs and tables, lighting, fans, and flowers. Expect to pay around $4,000 to $7,500 for an entire funeral service.

We found that religious funerals may cost more because of the ceremonial items and personnel needed to facilitate the ritual. For example, the cost of a two-day Taoist funeral may shoot all the way up to $8,300 because of the added decorations.

On the other hand, non-religious funerals are cheaper, commonly costing around $3,000 to $4,000 for obvious reasons.

Keep in mind that these are the average prices of funeral services where a funeral director is involved.

5 Ways to Becoming a Better Leader

Over time, leadership is a learned behavior that becomes unconscious and automatic.  As an example, it takes others to understand the question but leaders can make several important decisions about an issue in time. Many people are wondering how leaders know how to make the best decisions, often under immense pressure.  The process of making these decisions comes from an accumulation of experiences and encounters with a multitude of different circumstances, personality types, and unforeseen failures.  More so, the decision-making process is an acute understanding of being familiar with the cause and effect of behavioral and circumstantial patterns; knowing the intelligence and interconnection points of the variables involved in these patterns allows a leader to confidently make decisions and project the probability of their desired outcomes.   The most successful leaders are instinctual decision-makers.  Having done it so many times throughout their careers, they become immune to the pressure associated with decision-making and extremely intuitive about the process of making the most strategic and best decisions.

  1. A good leader has the ability of the ethical person to shine through to leadership and has respect for the law and regulations. A leader with integrity draws on their values to guide their decisions, behaviour, and dealings with others. They have clear convictions about what is right and wrong and are respected for being genuine, principled, ethical, and consistent. They have a strong sense of character, keep their promises, and communicate openly, honestly, and directly with others. Displaying integrity through your daily actions will see you rewarded with loyalty, confidence, and respect from your employees.
  2. Lead by example– a good leader has the ability to demonstrate the skills, knowledge, and experience to undertake the tasks expected from them, both in terms of the job that is required to be completed, but with respect to their contribution to the wider organization.
  3. Strengthen relationships — communicating clearly and respectfully, taking time to build trust, and being consistently fair. The ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and tactfully is a crucial leadership skill. Communication involves more than just listening attentively to others and responding appropriately. It also includes sharing valuable information, asking intelligent questions, soliciting input and new ideas, clarifying misunderstandings, and being clear about what you want. The best leaders also communicate to inspire and energise their staff.
  4. Treat people fairly — giving credit where it’s due and taking personal responsibility when things go wrong. A good leader takes responsibility for their own actions as well as the action of others. Great leaders understand that for people to give their best, they must have a sense of ownership over their work and believe that what they’re doing is meaningful. Communicate clear goals and deadlines to your team, and then give them the autonomy and authority to decide how the work gets done. Challenge them with high expectations and encourage them to be creative and show innovation.
  5. A good leader maintains and develops skills, knowledge, and experience in themselves and others. True leaders know that perfection is a myth – there is always room for improvement on all levels, from the personal to the team to the overall organization. They’ll always be willing to help team members find ways to develop new skills or improve upon a weakness, be able to identify and implement strategies for helping the organization as a whole grow, and, perhaps most importantly, be able to look inward and identify the areas they would like to work on – and then act on them.

Additional traits of a great leader:

  • A good leader has the motivation to prevent harm to anyone and ensures a safe place of work for staff
  • A good leader is objective, fair, and reasonable
  • A good leader acts with conviction
  • A good leader provides clear direction
  • A good leader discharges of a Duty of Care to customers, clients, and staff

Why leadership is important

Most people do better with someone firmly at the helm. Without a strong leader, employees may work well for a time, but eventually, they’ll run out of steam. This hurts both your people and profits.

Improve your leadership skills to:

  • bring employees together
  • help people understand what’s expected of them
  • help them understand where your business is heading
  • stay passionate about your vision
  • get more done.

Focus on improving these three areas — it’s a win for your business and your people will reap the rewards.

8 Ways to Zen Up Your Home and Living Space

Boost your moods, increase creativity and reduce stress. Zen up your living space.

  1. Declutter
  2. Opt for earthy colours
  3. Place soft materials for your feet
  4. Simple and natural furniture
  5. Keep ornaments and decorations to a minimum
  6. Enhance your room with natural scents
  7. Bring in green plants for calmness
  8. Remove electronic disturbances

Here are some ways to Zen up your home:

  1. Declutter

Keep accessories to a minimum or eliminate them altogether, as clutter can inhibit relaxation. Clear your room of as many items as possible and keep only the essentials, but feel free to add whatever may bring you extra comfort.

  1. Opt for earthy colours

Earthy colours are a mixture or tonalities of browns and tans, which can include richer colors containing some brown, such as orange, red, green, yellow, purple, and blue. They tend to more muted and flat colors. A zen inspired design is all about natural colours, in soft tones, such as white, grey, shades of beige or pink beige, which have the power to induce a sense of relaxation and calmness. Chromatic harmony between the various elements is very important, as well as the visual continuity between walls, furniture and floors.

  1. Place soft materials for your feet

Wool carpets provide a real sense of comfort but require a higher level of maintenance. However, if you choose a carpet, you may refine your zen décor and reinforce the cocooning sensation of the room by associating several carpets made of wool or pure cotton. Parquet is always a safe choice, as well as any massive wooden flooring. White, greyish or any light coloured parquets are especially refined but you can also choose coloured parquet provided it matches the rest of the room.

  1. Simple and natural furniture

Zen style furniture is characterized by simple and clear lines, avoiding complicated detail and excess ornamentation. The furniture should be high quality and made of natural materials as these bring a sense of warmth and relaxation.

  1. Keep ornaments and decorations to a minimum

For wall decorations there is the same word of order: simplicity. Avoid collections of paintings or photos and keep only those that are especially dear to you. For a fully harmonious and playful library, cover all your books in monochrome paper.

  1. Enhance your room with natural scents

A homemade linen spray, soy or beeswax candles, and essential oils are all-natural ways to enhance your room with fresh scents, which can not only be calming when it’s time to sleep, but also invigorating when it’s time to wake.

  1. Bring in green plants for calmness

Not only do indoor plants enhance the overall appearance of a space, but they’ve been shown to boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollutants—making for a healthier, happier you. Indoor plants don’t just look good—they can make us feel good, too. However, avoid flowers which need special maintenance or may emanate disturbing scents.

  1. Remove electronic disturbances

Electronic devices are most often a source of distraction and therefore do not integrate in a fully zen decor. However, if you need to have your TV set in the bedroom for instance, make sure you place it in a discrete area or hide it in a specially designed cupboard. As well, make sure you hide all wires and cables that could distort the serene atmosphere of the entire setting.

Life Lessons: Netflix series Squid Game

  1. Don’t underestimate women.
  2. Always be kind to others.
  3. The best time to get insurance is when you don’t need it yet
  4. Gambling is not a shortcut to a stable life.
  5. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  6. Our choices today determine our future.
  7. Nurture every connection you make
  8. Money may be important, but it doesn’t always guarantee happiness
  9. Greed makes a man blind.
  10. Be grateful for what you have.

Have you seen this popular Korean TV series yet?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably have heard of the Squid Game, the new Korean series on Netflix. The show is a huge hit in Singapore. And quick trivia, it’s also the first Korean series to rank first in the Netflix US chart.

To give you a short background, Squid Games is a story about people who are at the brink of financial ruin joining an underground game. The stakes of participating in the game are high, but the prize will help them escape their problems in the real world. The plot might sound simple, but the show teaches us a lot of lessons about money, survival, deceit, and life in general. Some scenes are just so heartbreaking that they would just make you reflect on how you’re living your life.

Life lessons from the Netflix series Squid Game

[Warning: Spoilers ahead!]

  1. Don’t underestimate women.

Some of the best, most cunning characters in the story are women. They might seem gentle and quiet, but the hardships they experience toughened them up and got them far in the vicious game.

  1. Always be kind to others.

Various acts of kindness abundantly run within the series. Considering its dark tone, it’s impressive how willful and inadvertent compassion was shown by the characters. Gi-hun makes sure the small band they formed works together to protect each other.

  1. The best time to get insurance is when you don’t need it yet

Have you ignored the messages of a friend offering you insurance? Let’s face the reality. Whenever we encounter people urging us to start having our own insurance, we ignore them. At one point, we may have prioritized spending our money on something we want over something we need.

Gi Hun found out that his mother is diabetic but his mother chose to go home due to lack of money to pay for the hospital bills. Gi Hun said the insurance will cover everything but was reminded that he wasn’t able to consistently pay for it.

  1. Gambling is not a shortcut to a stable life.

Whenever we have financial problems, we always resort to gambling. We risk our money into a game that will just put our life at stake.

Gi-hun and Sang-woo are old childhood friends who went on different routes when they grew up. One became successful, the other a failure. But they end up in the life-risking game because of poor choices. Their pasts do not matter anymore because they are on equal footing.

  1. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. In other words, it probably is FALSE. if you observe a fact or situation that seems unlikely, then the likely explanation for you observing it is that there is something wrong with the fact or situation.

  1. Our choices today determine our future.

The decisions we make not only shape our present, but also seeds our future. Gi-hun, as a lead character, showed a lot of imperfections. Based on his current state in life, it’s obvious that the guy was not always a straight arrow. All his actions in the past came to bite him in the present. Unfortunately, the wrong calls only led him to even greater danger.

  1. Nurture every connection you make

Filtering people in your life is part of being an adult. You don’t need to build a wide connection only a small functioning one. Most of the time, the people you thought to matter won’t even ask you how you are doing randomly or intentionally.

  1. Money may be important, but it doesn’t always guarantee happiness

Money was the greatest motivator for all 456 players that they still came back even after knowing the risks at hand. With the huge sum taunting them as it looms over their heads, people were even driven to kill for the bills! But in the end, we realize that money doesn’t always guarantee a happy life.

  1. Greed makes a man blind.

Squid Game is about survival. In order for you to survive and secure the winning prize, you need to do whatever it takes. However, amid that eagerness to win, we disregard the fact that greed overpowered us, which resulted in unpleasant things happening.

  1. Be grateful for what you have.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting a better life, for you and your family. But have you stopped to say thank you for everything that you already have?

if you’re reading this article in peace, safe from the natural elements, surrounded by people who love you, you already have enough to be thankful for.

Work hard, be honest and kind, stay away from vices and be thankful for your blessings.

He even advised me on how to do my will in places such as Bangkok and Shanghai. When arranging video conferences to meet, he will always be on time while making me feel welcome.
